Confederacion Guadalupana
Contact Information: Inez Alonso
On a hilltop in Mexico City in December of 1531, the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego, a poor Indian, asking him to help build a church in her honor so that all may come to pray.
So began the close and loving relationship between the Latin community and the Virgin of Guadalupe. Mexicans and Latin American Catholics in California remain devoted to 'La Virgen Morenita’ and her image, and consider her to be their greatest advocate before her son Jesus.
From the beginning, Sociedades Guadalupanas have formed wherever Mexicans have established their faith. Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Sociedad Guadalupana is no exception. This group’s primary responsibilities are to further the spiritual and material goals of the Parish.
In preparation for her Feast Day, La Sociedad Guadalupana prays the Rosary and a novena on the nine days leading up to her Feast Day.
La Sociedad’s duties culminate each year on December 12th, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
On December 12th, members of the Sociedad Guadalupana organize a procession in her honor during which they pray the Rosary as they journey from Dogwood and Brighton Avenue to the parish church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
We invite all members of our Parish to join La Sociedad Guadalupana! We welcome your presence as we celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe and learn more about her venerated role in our Faith.
